LIMS

Manufacturing LIMS

There are a variety of laboratories that can be classified in the category of manufacturing. Some of them include competitive analysis laboratories, research and development process control, quality control and manufacturing.

The LIMS manufacturing companies usually have different types of products. These are based upon the kind of testing performed by these laboratories. All products offer the clients compliance information and real-time specification checking.

Functionalities of LIMS

There is a beneficial system that includes integrated email alerts. It has a CC list for samples, which do not meet the requirements. Also, the instrument integration promotes faster access of data with SPC charting for instant viewing. Additionally, the users of LIMS can put up Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for online accessibility to help in standardization.

There are further functionalities for laboratories that are semi-manufacturing in nature. The semi-manufacturing laboratories are an integration of Research and Development, Manufacturing and Quality Control. There are also some added modules which provide calibration functionality and instrument maintenance.

Quality Control in LIMS

LIMS is a highly configurable system that allows users to carry out quality control and specific checking. The users classify field names for expiration dates, lot numbers, turnaround times, manufacturing sites, products types, raw material and completed products. Besides these, there are many other unique features related to a particular manufacturing industry with various user definable fields.

Each company manufactures different kinds of LIMS. The most commonly used LIMS for manufacturing purposes are modular by design and allow its users to choose from different modules. The users are also free to add any other modules any time.

With all this information, LIMS allows users to assess the quality of a product against the customers' specifications. The users also have the capacity to tune lower and upper specification limits and email reports to the users automatically on a user-defined basis.

Certificate of Analysis in LIMS

Both the systems allow users to produce (CofAs) Certificate of Analysis. The certificate can be printed, faxed or emailed (in pdf format only). LIMS offer product traceability, raw material validation, production run tracking, product and client specific requirements, quarantine products, instrument integration, trend analysis and multi-site control limits. It also offers the capability to track individual customer information such as ordering, contacts, shipping details, reporting and billing addresses and contacts. Users are also allowed to view product, backlog reports and control charts automatically.

LIMS Criteria

LIMS can easily integrate with various inventory and production control systems through basic mechanisms and various different formats to fulfill the criteria set up by the requirements. Below are some requirements of manufacturing laboratories:

  • User friendly and ease of configuration
  • Legalization of raw materials and product run tracking, product quarantine and traceability
  • Incorporation with common instruments used for manufacturing in order to boost productivity and improve quality
  • Easy solution built on proven technology that is completely scalable to improve the laboratory
  • Skill to monitor procedures instantaneously and view trends that offer business advantages
